I was not aware of Shepherd's status a WWII amputee who made it the the Majors. I was aware, however, of Monty Stratton, another one-legged player who pitched for the Chisox in the 1950s. His rise to professional fame was even made into a movie (1952?) which I saw. Stratton's popularity came about because of his handicap and not his pitching success. I doubt, strongly doubt, if MLB today would evern consider such a candidate. Saluti a tutti. Don Vincenzo
